Kane inspires Bayern comeback as PSG close in on Ligue 1

Bayern Munich produced a stunning second-half fightback to overcome a three-goal deficit and beat Mainz 05 4-3 in the Bundesliga, with substitutes Harry Kane and Michael Olise pivotal in the 4-3 victory. Trailing 3-0 at half-time after goals from Dominik Kohr, Paul Nebel and Sheraldo Becker, Bayern failed to register a single shot on target in the first 45 minutes, having made eight changes following their midweek German Cup win over Bayer Leverkusen.

Second-half turnaround

Manager Vincent Kompany introduced Kane and Olise at the break, sparking an immediate transformation. Nicolas Jackson pulled one back in the 53rd minute, before Olise levelled with a 73rd-minute strike. Jamal Musiala completed the comeback with a goal in the 80th minute, and Kane sealed the win three minutes later, taking his league goal tally for the season to 33.

The result extends Bayern’s winning run across all competitions to nine matches, keeping them firmly in contention at the top of the Bundesliga as they prepare for their Champions League semi-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG edge closer to title

Paris Saint-Germain moved within touching distance of the Ligue 1 crown with a 3-0 win at Angers, opening a six-point gap over second-placed Lens. Lee Kang-in and Senny Mayulu scored in the first half, with Lucas Beraldo adding a third shortly after the restart. The victory keeps PSG on course for their 12th league title in 14 years.

The afternoon was not without concern, however. Achraf Hakimi was substituted at half-time with a fitness issue, while Gonçalo Ramos was sent off in the 74th minute after picking up a second yellow card, leaving PSG to finish the match with 10 men.

Lyon edge ahead in race for Europe

Lyon held off struggling Auxerre with a 3-2 win to strengthen their grip on a Champions League spot. Roman Yaremchuk scored twice, either side of a Corentin Tolisso goal, to give Lyon 57 points and open a three-point advantage over fourth-placed Lille, who face Paris FC on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Monaco missed the chance to close the gap, surrendering a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at Toulouse. Goals in the 60th and 90th minutes from Toulouse saw Monaco drop two crucial points, leaving them three points behind Lille in the battle for European qualification.
