Cesena show support for Klinsmann after neck surgery

Cesena have sent a powerful message of support to Jonathan Klinsmann following the USMNT goalkeeper's surgery for a broken neck sustained during a Serie B match against Palermo earlier this month. Klinsmann was stretchered off in a neck brace after a heavy collision with Filippo Ranocchia, with scans revealing a fracture to the first vertebra in his neck.

Club honours injured goalkeeper

The Cesena squad paid tribute to their absent teammate ahead of their 0-0 draw with Sampdoria, wearing custom warm-up shirts bearing Klinsmann's name and number. A Captain America shield emblazoned with his initials 'JK' was placed behind one of the goals, symbolising strength and resilience.

The club also shared a video montage of fan messages addressed to the goalkeeper, accompanied by the caption: “Hey Jon, your people are waiting for you.” The emotional gesture highlighted the bond between Klinsmann and the Cesena faithful.

Season and World Cup dream over

The injury required delicate spinal surgery, ending Klinsmann's season prematurely and ruling him out of the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada. The 28-year-old, son of former Inter striker Jürgen Klinsmann, has been recovering since the operation.

Cesena’s public display of unity aims to uplift the goalkeeper during his rehabilitation, reinforcing that he remains a vital part of the club despite his absence from the pitch.
